How To Repair An Electric Kettle

Your kettle is something which you use on a daily basis, and you’ll never quite appreciate how much you use it until it breaks down. We all enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and it’s tough to get one without using your kettle. We’re going to be taking a look at how you can repair some of the standard parts of an electric kettle, so you’ll never be without hot drinks when you want them the most.

The Wiring

The wiring is one of the most common parts of an electric kettle which can go wrong. You should regularly check the plug for signs of damage and to make sure that the connections are still secure. The wiring for the kettle is contained within the ‘flex’, which is a term given to describe the electrical cord inside the kettle. If you see any signs of deterioration, such as the wearing away of the flex itself or signs of overheating and burn damage, you should replace the flex immediately.

The Element

The element is the part of the kettle that works and heats up the water. This can be changed by unscrewing the shroud and locating the fibre washer which is inside the element. You’ll need to remove both of these parts, which will allow you to grasp and then extract the item. You can buy kettle elements from some places, but you should always make sure you have the correct one. Once you have it, you’ll need to fit a rubber washer onto the new element; this will provide a seal between the element and the actual kettle and will ensure that the product can be used safely. Make sure the pot is then cleaned thoroughly, and everything is secure before you use it carefully.

The Spout

The spout of your kettle is one of the hardest things to repair, in the simple sense that you can not. This is because the chromium plating and aluminium that you would usually find on a spout cannot support a permanent seal which most adhesives would provide, and you also can not find an adhesive which would be able to withstand the boiling temperature of the water as it leaves the kettle. If this a problem that you are experiencing, there are very few options left but to replace the body of the kettle or instead replace the entire pot.

Overall, these are just a few of the ways that you can repair some of the most common faults that you’ll find on the kettle. The kettle is a valuable part of the home which a lot of people use heavily to get hot drinks across the day. Therefore, you’ll want it fixed as soon as possible to ensure as little as disruption to your day as possible. Being able to fix it yourself is something which is a useful skill to have, as you’ll be saving yourself time and money by doing a self-repair.
